We have sort of a "standard issue" bathtub/tile setup in our guest bathroom. Wall around tub is all white ceramic tile... nothing remarkable about the type of tub (it's flush against wall & floor).
The grout between tile and tub is anywhere from 1/8 to 1/4" gap... all of it is cracking or broken (just between tile and tub - rest of grout looks to be in good shape).
Questions: - Because much of the gap is 1/4", should I use a sanded grout to replace (or another type?)? - Should I use caulk (100% silicone?) or grout to replace? If grout, should I put silicone caulk OVER the grout?
Any advice on best way to approach this repair would be much appreciated.
In doing some reading around the Internet, it seems like advice falls into two camps - that gap between tub & tile should only contain caulk... or alternatively, it should be grouted. Seems about 50/50 in either camp from what I've read - anybody with a definitive answer, it would be greatly appreciated.
